The film released on July 16th 2008 in theatres and grossed over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Batman film up until it's own sequel released, The Dark Knight Rises, which would surpass The Dark Knight as highest-grossing with just over 75 million. The film has a runtime of 152 minutes, or 2 hours and 32 minutes; and had a budget of somewhere between $180-185 million. The Dark Knight is the second instalment of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy; acting as a sequel to Batman Begins.
On July 19th 2012, a sequel to The Dark Knight and the final instalment of the Dark Knight Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, would release in theatres.
Synopsis[]
When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.
Plot[]
In Gotham City, a group of criminals: Bozo, Dopey, Happy, Grumpy, and Chuckles, commit a bank robbery at the Gotham First National Bank. As the robbery takes place, each criminal double crosses and kills each other until only one is left alive: Bozo, who is ultimately revealed to be the mastermind of the entire robbery - the Joker.
The Gotham City Police Department continue their search for the Batman; however, public opinion stays divided on if the intentions of the vigilante are good or bad. Lieutenant James Gordon is among the public to believe in the Batman's cause - as he continues to aid the caped crusader in his efforts to stop crime in Gotham. Meanwhile, Chechen and Jonathan Crane, known by his alias: Scarecrow, conduct a meeting - which is interrupted by a group of armed men wearing Batman suits, who fail to take down the illegal operation, the vigilantes are merely saved by the newly-arrived Batman, who successfully apprehends Scarecrow, his gang, and the vigilantes.
