David Bowie was a musician and actor who portrayed Nikola Tesla in The Prestige. He also wrote and performed the song Something in the Air, which is played over the credits of Memento.
Bowie had been a well known name since the 1960s for his musical success and appearances in films. For the role of Tesla, Christopher Nolan wanted someone who was not necessarily a movie star but had an enigmatic quality. Bowie initially turned down the role, but Nolan visited him and explained that he was the only one he wanted for the part, so Bowie agreed.
